How Does Our Fillings Service Work?

Our tooth fillings service is a dental treatment used to restore a tooth damaged by decay or trauma. The process involves removing the damaged or decayed part of the tooth and filling the resulting cavity with a material such as composite or amalgam.

The filling material is shaped and polished to match the natural contour of the tooth, providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing restoration. The goal of a tooth filling is to prevent further decay, restore the tooth’s function and maintain the natural appearance of the tooth.

We at Andrew House Dental Practice offer two types of fillings. These are silver (amalgam) fillings or white (composite) fillings. Amalgam fillings have been used for many years and are typically strong restorations. However, composite fillings are becoming increasingly popular too.

Our fillings service follows these steps:

  1. Examination: One of our expert dentists will examine the tooth to determine the extent of the damage and the best course of treatment. This may involve taking X-rays to get a closer look at the tooth.
  2. Numbing:  We will then use local anaesthetic to numb the area around the tooth to minimise any discomfort during the procedure.
  3. Removal Of Decay: A drill or laser will be used to remove the decayed part of the tooth. This creates a space in the tooth that needs to be filled.
  4. Filling The Tooth: We will then fill the space in the tooth with a material such as composite or amalgam. Our dentists will shape and polish the filling to ensure it looks and feels like a natural tooth.
  5. Aftercare: Once the filling is in place, we will give you instructions on how to care for your tooth. This may include avoiding certain foods and drinks for a period of time, brushing and flossing regularly and scheduling regular checkups.
